Is the Precautionary Principle really an obstacle to innovation?
This conference will provide a platform to discuss existing challenges to the evidence-based implementation of the PP from an interdisciplinary perspective.
On June 19, the Rathenau Institute organised a meeting to discuss problems surrounding precaution and innovation with 40 citizens. The meeting led to lively discussions about questions such as: how important is it as a society to be careful with new technologies? Is it possible to be too careful? And who should be held responsible for guaranteeing precaution?
In spring 2019, the RECIPES project hosted citizen meetings in several countries. Citizens who took part in the meetings had the chance to reflect on issues related to precaution and innovation in relation to research and to provide their ideas and opinions.
On January 24 and 25, the RECIPES kick-off conference took place at Maastricht University. In addition to the presentation of the project and its underlying problem, the individual work packages of the different consortium partners were discussed.
